Study Ranks Chicago Among Top 5 Cities for Enjoying Autumn

Chicago has recently been recognized as one of the top global destinations for enjoying the autumn season, according to a study conducted by Travelbag. This travel agency examined Instagram hashtag data and Google search trends to determine the most popular cities during the fall months.

Geoff Dobson, who oversees regional destinations for the Americas at Travelbag, emphasized the unique allure of experiencing autumn in the United States. He highlighted iconic spots such as New York’s Central Park for its must-see appeal but also stressed the charm of Chicago’s Millennium Park and Seattle’s picturesque waterfront, both celebrated for their vivid fall colors.

On Instagram, Chicago secured a strong position, coming in second with a significant 26,375 posts tagged with #fallinchicago. New York led the way with 41,078 posts under #fallinnewyork, while Melbourne, Australia, followed closely behind with 23,811 posts tagged #autumninmelbourne.

Chicago is not just about its famous deep-dish pizza and the breathtaking vistas of Lake Michigan. Despite autumn temperatures potentially dipping to the mid-40s°F (around 8°C), visitors are drawn to the city’s seasonal aesthetic, exploring its leaf-strewn streets and parks.

In terms of Google search queries, Chicago shared the fourth spot with Tokyo, both cities receiving about 2,900 monthly searches for “fall in Chicago” and “autumn in Tokyo,” respectively. The top search spot went to Portland, with an impressive 9,900 monthly searches. Boston took second place with 5,400 searches, while Melbourne ranked third with 4,400.

The appeal of Chicago’s beautiful parks, scenic lakefronts, and the harmonious blend of tradition and modern innovation seen in places like Tokyo make them stand out as fall destinations. This ongoing interest highlights the unique experiences these cities offer to those looking to take in autumn’s beauty.
